The U.S. Pecan Industry’s First-Ever Voluntary Quality Assurance Program is Open for Public Comment

April 28, 2022

When Are Comments Being Accepted Until?
The public comment period for the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) will run from Thursday April 28, 2022, through Tuesday, May 31, 2022.

Is the Program mandatory or voluntary?
The Quality Assurance Program is voluntary.  This program is a tool that any industry member can utilize to communicate to consumers the farm to table story while getting credit for many practices they are already doing.

Whose Feedback Are We Looking For?
Yours! The American Pecan Council (APC) has released the draft of the Quality Assurance Program (QAP) for the U.S. pecan industry for public comment and will be collecting feedback through our QAP survey linked below.

What is the Purpose of the voluntary Quality Assurance Program?
The American Pecan Council developed the voluntary Quality Assurance Program in response to the U.S. pecan industry’s commitment to improving transparency across its supply chain by acknowledging and enhancing current industry practices and initiatives. The QAP provides the industry an avenue to communicate to consumers the high quality of the U.S. pecan product. In its final form, the voluntary Quality Assurance Program will be accompanied by resources and templates for industry members to facilitate program participation and onboarding.

* U.S. Food and Drug Administration: Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as pecans, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease. One serving of pecans (28g) has 12g of “good” monounsaturated fat and only 2g saturated fat.
