Showcasing pecans as a must-have
ingredient for the holidays

During the holiday season, the APC was on a mission to put the spotlight on pecans as a versatile ingredient for all holiday recipes – sweet and savory alike.

To achieve this, we took pecans beyond dessert through a partnership with the Elsen sisters, baking experts, co-founders and co-owners of Brooklyn’s Four & Twenty Blackbirds pie shop.

The dynamic duo created a “Pecan ThanksEverything Pie” featuring eight holiday dishes using pecans. The Pecan ThanksEverything Pie’s recipes included new favorites, such as Turkey Pot Pie with Pecan Crust, and used pecans to also add dimension to classic, holiday favorites like Green Bean Casserole with Sliced Pecans.

What were the key marketing elements of the campaign?

The Pecan ThanksEverything Pie was the Elsen sisters’ custom creation that blended the old with new, and the sweet with savory, into one delicious meal. This signature pie was promoted via paid social media campaigns across Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Paid campaigns featured the sisters’ creation of the pie, as well as how-to videos for making four of the pie’s stand-alone recipes, all in an effort to drive consumer engagement.

What was the goal of the campaign?

The Pecan ThanksEverything Pie focused on the pecan’s versatility throughout the holiday season, not in a way that competed with traditional flavors, but demonstrated how pecans can bring a favorite dish to the next level. By promoting the pecan’s versatility, we encouraged consumers to consider pecans a staple in their holiday kitchen.

Could industry participate in the Pecan ThanksEverything Pie Campaign?

The Pecan ThanksEverything Pie campaign inspired consumers during the entire holiday season, and there were many ways for industry to get involved, as well.

The promotional flyer was developed for posting at local shops, sharing at farmers’ markets or when packaging up customer purchases. Our printable recipe cards were shared with customers for culinary inspiration. Social media content was available for download from this page as well as from the Social Assets page.

Were Pecan ThanksEverything Pies available for industry members?

Ambitious cooks were able to follow a demo to recreate the entire pie, while the rest of us could make any of the pie’s eight recipes as a quick and easy, stand-alone side dish. For consumers in the New York area, the Pecan ThanksEverything Pie was available for purchase at Four & Twenty Blackbirds’ flagship location in Brooklyn, New York, on November 15, 2019. Fifty percent of the proceeds were donated to Community Help in Park Slope, Inc. (CHiPS), a local nonprofit soup kitchen and women’s shelter.
